Tell us about your current position.

I am the CEO of a boutique real estate development and consulting company, Amavi Living, that I founded in 2019. We develop and/or sell beautifully architected, design-centric weekend and holiday homes across the Indian cities of Hyderabad, Bangalore, Goa and Coorg. Our largest development project is currently underway, where we are developing a weekend home community composed of 27 meticulously-crafted homes. Our vision is to establish ourselves as a prominent player in the booming second home market in India.

Academically, what made Purdue stand apart from other colleges you considered attending?

Purdue was consistently ranked in the top three colleges, nationally and globally, for the Industrial Engineering degree that I chose to pursue. However, what really made Purdue stand out for me was the way the Engineering program was designed. The First-Year Engineering program required all Engineering students, irrespective of their chosen school, to go through a curriculum which was very interdisciplinary and collaborative. This curriculum gave us exposure to teachings from different engineering and management schools, which helped us decide what really worked for us before we began specializing in our chosen fields.

How would you describe Purdue’s personality beyond its academic offerings?

To me, Purdue was Home – vibrant, full of life and experiences, but most importantly, safe and welcoming. In my four years of being an international student at Purdue, there wasn’t a single day where I felt out of place or like I didn’t belong there.  This was a direct result of the extreme warmth constantly extended by the staff, students, and residents of Purdue and West Lafayette.

What are three adjectives that describe your Purdue experience?

Fulfilling, Enriching, and Life-Shaping.

What advice would you give to other Indian students who are thinking about applying to Purdue?

Stop thinking about it and just do it! The opportunities and doors that open once you are a Purdue graduate are endless. We have one of the strongest and widest alumni networks, which is ever- ready to support you in your endeavors, wherever you are around the globe.

If you could do it all over again, would you do anything differently?

I would probably partake and participate more actively in the various student organizations that the campus had to offer.

Do you have any advice for the graduating class this year?

You don’t have to have it all figured out anytime soon. Most of us took nearly a decade after graduating to finally find and commit to career paths that we find most fulfilling. Give yourself the time and freedom to find your passions.

In your experience, what are the attributes of individuals who are most successful in your field?

Interpersonal skills to be able to identify opportunities, connections to be able to materialize these opportunities, and strong financial engineering skills.

Are there any courses at Purdue that you would recommend taking as part of preparation?

COM 114 and the First-Year Engineering courses, ENGR 131 and 132, played a very crucial role in developing the above skills and continue to serve me even today. While all these courses are mandatory anyway, I would recommend fully immersing yourself in learning everything they have to offer.
