Annual Social Security Number review recommended for open enrollment
The Affordable Care Act -- also known as Health Care Reform -- requires employers to send Social Security Numbers (SSN) for those covered on an employment-related medical plan to the IRS (including dependents) along with the medical plan election. An error/mismatch between your employer-reported SSN and the number in the Social Security Administration’s system may negatively impact your Social Security benefit calculation; therefore, Purdue employees should take a moment to review both their own and their dependents’ information in Benefitfocus to ensure that their SSN information has been entered and is valid. If a dependent does not have a SSN to enter, the employee may disregard this message.
You can review this information as part of the upcoming open enrollment process, or you can go ahead and do it now. To begin, go to Purdue’s homepage and click on the OneCampus Portal link at the bottom of the page. Find the Benefits Enrollment -- Active link and click it to log into Benefitfocus using your Purdue password and BoilerKey. Once logged into Benefitfocus, click the gold button “To Enroll, Make a Change, and View Your Benefits CLICK HERE.”
To review your own SSN:
In the menu on the left, click Profile. On the profile screen, click the arrow beside Personal information to see your data. If your SSN is not right, work with your business office to get it corrected. When you are done reviewing, click Cancel to go back to the previous screen.
To review your dependent’s SSN:
In the menu on the left, click Dependents. Under Actions, click Edit next to your dependent’s name. Review the SSN for that dependent for accuracy. To make a change, click Show and Edit just beneath the number to enter a new number, then click the black Save box at the bottom of the page. If no change is needed, click Cancel at the bottom of the page. Employees should do this for any dependents (spouse and children) covered at any time in 2020.
