Benefitfocus – Helpful information provided for uploading necessary documents
Benefitfocus is our benefits management platform that simplifies how we manage many of our benefit programs. Used by faculty, staff and graduate students, this system can be used all year to review your benefits and to update some information – for example if you want to change your HSA contribution amount or if you have a qualifying life event and need to add or remove dependents. We also enroll in benefits for the following year using Benefitfocus each fall. In order to help you get the most out of Benefitfocus, below is helpful information regarding the system.
Uploading documents in Benefitfocus
An important part of Benefitfocus and enrolling / managing our benefits is uploading any necessary documentation. The “How to Upload Documents in Benefitfocus Detailed Instructions” pdf resource outlines the process step-by-step.
Uploading the Working Spouse Premium Waiver Form – if applicable
While the instructions are similar, Human Resources has created an additional instruction sheet specifically to assist those who need to upload the Working Spouse Premium Waiver Form.
Note: If you will be covering your spouse through Purdue in 2020, you will need to provide the Working Spouse Premium Waiver form ONLY if:
- Your spouse is employed or self-employed, outside of Purdue, but does not have access to an employer group plan where at least 50 percent of the premium is paid for on their behalf. In this case, you are eligible for a waiver of the Working Spouse Premium by submitting this validation from your spouse's employer. Coverage through Purdue will be their primary coverage OR
- Your spouse is employed or self-employed, outside of Purdue, has access to a group plan where at least 50 percent of the premium is paid for on their behalf, AND he/she/they takes the coverage through their employer. In this case, you are eligible for a waiver of the Working Spouse Premium by submitting this validation from your spouse's employer that he/she/they is taking their plan. Coverage through Purdue would be secondary to their employer's plan.
Instructions for uploading the form are available here.
The form needs to be uploaded into Benefitfocus by December 2, 2019 to avoid paying the Working Spouse Premium.
NOTE: Your spouse’s employer must also complete a section and sign the form. For spouses who are self-employed and need to provide a waiver form, the form can be signed by a representative of their company (i.e. HR) or the spouse can sign as the representative. The employee still signs to certify.
Employees who are not covering a spouse, have a Purdue employed spouse or their spouse is not employed will attest to this within the BenefitFocus platform during open enrollment. A waiver form will not be necessary.
