Sangrak Son


The Nemali Lab has published a new article in Frontiers in Plant Science. The research was conducted by graduate student, Sangrak Son, with Drs. Lori Hoagland, Amanda Deering, and Jin Wei-Kocsis as committee members.  Nutrient release and yield comparison between customized organic and conventional fertilizers in hydroponic lettuce production.

The 2025 Indiana Horticulture Conference welcomed 200+ attendees and 19 vendors to the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville, IN on January 14-15th. The Nemali Lab organized a crash course on hydroponic crop production for growers and communities in Indiana in November. The day-long course provided both classroom-style and experiential learning opportunities to 30 participants. Thanks to Ms. Lori Jolly-Brown, Uzma Gulzar, Sangrak Son, Nicholas Feddersen, and Akshay Nemali for organizing and supporting the workshop.



Dr. Krishna Nemali was invited by Pure Green Farms-a large greenhouse-based hydroponics facility in South Bend, Indiana, to assess their production protocols and help them improve their practices and crop yields. Nemali’s lab was invited to present at the Digital Ag Showcase organized by Purdue College of Agriculture at the Beck Center. Krishna Nemali and his graduate student, Sangrak Son, presented and demonstrated low-cost smart (IoT) sensors and mobile apps for plant monitoring in agriculture to a group of farmers, educators, faculty, and industry professionals.


Krishna Nemali and Sangrak Son (Ph.D. student in Nemali’s lab) are continuing their outreach and engagement work at Otterbein Elementary School, Indiana. The goal of their project is to shift the attitudes in schoolchildren towards healthy eating by providing both hands on and curriculum-based training.
