This week, the Hoagland Lab attended the CANVAS conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. Cristian Salinas presented on the role of vertically transmitted microbiome in induced systemic resistance in tomato. Miné van der Berg presented on microbial modulation of toxic element uptake in edible greens. Kayla Quintero presented a poster on the relationship between a…Read more about Hoagland Lab Presented at CANVAS[Read More]
Peter Hirst led the Indiana Horticulture Society Field Day that was generously hosted by Chandler’s Orchard in Fillmore, IN. We toured their apple, strawberry and vegetable operations. Miranda Purcell, Steve Meyers and Wenjing Guan were in attendance as well as members of the Meyers lab & Hoagland lab.
New paper from the Hoagland lab co-led by former post-docs Marian Luis and Amit Jaiswal. The paper titled ‘Deciphering the mechanisms regulating variability in induced systemic resistance among tomato genotypes’ was published in the journal Phythopathology https://apsjournals.apsnet.org/doi/10.1094/PHYTO-07-24-0240-R. The team used RNA-seq to determine the molecular basis for these differential responses. Results of this study will…Read more about Hoagland Lab Publishes New Paper[Read More]
Laura Elisa García is an industrial and environmental microbiologist from the University of Antioquia, Colombia, with a master’s degree in Biological Sciences from CES University. Her research experience includes agricultural microbiology and microbial community analysis in cacao fermentation. At Purdue, she will explore microbial interactions in tomato crops, focusing on their potential for sustainable management….Read more about Three New Visiting Scholars Arrive at Dr. Lori Hoagland’s Lab.[Read More]
Former visiting scholar Leilei Zhang published the first paper from the research she conducted as an intern in the Hoagland Lab investigating how nanoplastic contamination in soils can influence plant-soil-microbial feedbacks. Results of this study will help scientists develop solutions to this growing problem. “The combination of hyperspectral imaging, untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics highlights a…Read more about Former Visiting Scholar Publishes Research Paper[Read More]
Hoagland Lab welcomes new research technician, Brenton Smith. Smith received an Associates in Natural Resource and Environmental Sciences from Vincennes University and Bachelors in Botany and Plant Pathology from Purdue University. While an undergrad at Purdue he worked in Dr. Chapple’s Lab in Biochem along with Dr. Jody Banks in the Ag Department. After graduation…Read more about Brenton Smith Joins Hoagland Lab[Read More]
Members of the Hoagland Lab attended the ASA, CSSA & SSSA Tri Society Meeting 2024 in San Antonio, Texas: Henrique Petry presented his talk “Understanding the impact of tomato domestication on rhizosphere metabolites and root microbiomes”, and his poster “Impact of nanoplastics on rhizosphere microbiomes and rhizosphere metabolites in tomato and lettuce.” Lily Berry Presented…Read more about Hoagland Lab Attends ASA, CSSA & SSSA Meeting[Read More]
Hoagland Lab members Stephanie Castaño, Sandra (Naomy) Perez, Kathleen Zapf and Kayla Quintero attended the Urban Food Systems Symposium in Columbus, Ohio from June 11-13. They learned about urban farm and garden systems in the United States and toured Ohio urban farms and community gardens, while networking with other professionals.
The Hoagland Lab joined the Midwest Microbiome Symposium hosted this year by Purdue from 13th through 15th May at Beck Center. Henrique Petry and Cristian Salinas, both PhD students, presented their posters on nanoplastics effect on tomato and lettuce microbiome and coffee root endophytes response to legume intercropping.
