The Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience (PIIN), in collaboration with the Center for Paralysis Research (CPR), will hold a series of workshops designed to create interdisciplinary research teams focused on tackling major problems in central nervous system (CNS) trauma in November and December of 2019.  

The CNS Trauma Workshop Series is designed to identify major challenges in the brain and spinal cord injury that would best be addressed by an interdisciplinary approach and to create teams of Purdue faculty members equipped to solve these problems. Selected teams will receive funding as part of this PIIN-CPR joint initiative.

The workshop times and details are:

Nov 13, 2019, 4-6 p.m., Drug Lobby: Existing groups will give introductory presentations. Faculty members will identify major problems in neurotrauma that could be solved through an interdisciplinary approach. The outcome of the workshop will be the identification of key questions.  This edtion of the workshop series will feature these three key brilliant speakers with the title of their lectures in quotatitions:

Yunjie Tong, PhD, Assistant Professor, Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering-"Non-invasive Assessment of Post-TBI Cerebral Blood Flow – Injury Mechanisms, Diagnostic Biomarkers, and Therapeutic Evaluations". 

Bradley Duerstock, PhD, Associate Professor, School of Industrial Engineering- "Autonomic Nervous System Dysfunction After Spinal Cord Injury – utilizing Engineering Principles to Tackle life-threatening Complications in SCI"

Melissa Lewis, VMD, PhD, Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary Medicine-"Veterinary Clinical Model of Neurotrauma – Opportunities for Translational Research Collaborations".

Dec. 5, 2019, 3-5 p.m., Drug Lobby: New teams will form to solve major problems in neurotrauma. Each team will develop a research plan describing how to solve these problems and how the team’s expertise could be applied to achieve the intended research goals. The outcome of the workshop will be the development of research plans to be considered for internal funding.

REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS: Challenges in Neurotrauma will be announced on December 12, 2019. Proposals are due by January 29, 2020.

Projects will begin on April 1, 2020.
