Australia (Sydney)

CIEE-Sydney: Summer Global Internship

Spend the summer interning abroad in Sydney, Australia! CIEE Sydney is a great place to gain real-life work experience before a new school year begins. During the internship, students will become familiar with the characteristically relaxed, yet globally competitive, workplace culture in one of the Southern Hemisphere's hubs for trade, finance, tech, and media production. This program offers plenty of opportunities to help interns develop and refine their skills, network with professionals in multiple fields, and explore potential career paths.

Bhutan

SFS-Bhutan: Himalayan Studies

In the Buddhist kingdom of Bhutan, people have developed rich cultural traditions and social and political institutions that reflect Buddhist principles of The Middle Path, integrating people and nature, traditional knowledge and Western science. Sustainable management of natural resources, including soil, water, species and minerals, is critical for this country whose economy is largely based on these resources. This 6-week summer program will start in early June and end in mid-July and be a mix of classroom instruction, field study, and research. Approved for Biology.

Costa Rica (Monterverde)

CIEE- Monterverde: Summer Global Internship

Spend the summer interning abroad in Monteverde, a unique region known for its biological diversity, multicultural society, and the efforts its community organizations and businesses make to conserve natural resources and mitigate climate change. During the summer internship, students will gain new skills and abilities while living in one of the few ecosystems of a Tropical Cloud Forest. Discover first-hand the initiatives and ventures involved in balancing an economy and ecotourism without compromising sustainability, human well-being, community resilience, conservation, climate action, and more in this biodiverse Costa Rican region.  Approved for Biology.

Denmark (Copenhagen)

DIS-Copenhagen: Health, Science and Engineering Programs

Summer courses usually involve an experiential component.  For instance, pre-med students participate in clinical-related coursework and Arctic Ecology students takea field trip to Greenland. Approved for Biology & EAPS.

Germany (Hannover)

Leibniz University Hannover- Summer Science and Engineering Projects

The Leibniz University Hannover- Summer Science and Engineering Projects program allows Purdue science majors to carry out a research internship under the direction of a faculty member at Leibniz University. Students work full-time (36-40 hours per week) in a university research facility.Students produce biweekly reports regarding their research topic and cultural experiences. They complete a technical report near the end of their experience. Approved for CoS.

Germany (Stuttgart)

SUPER at the University of Stuttgart

SUPER is a summer research program designed exclusively for undergraduate and graduate students from Purdue as a partner university of the University of Stuttgart. Due to the supervision involved, the number of places is extremely restricted.  Participating students gain intercultural competence during their research internships and experience student life at a German university.  Approved by Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics & Physics.

Madagascar

SBU-Madagascar

The Madagascar Study Abroad Program has been running since 1998 as an undergraduate course through Stony Brook University. Courses will be conducted by resident and visiting professors of Ornithology, Entomology, Ichthyology, Limnology, Botany, Anthropology, Zoology, and Primatology. Students work alongside Malagasy and foreign students and scientists, and research station staff, with guidance from field course professors. Independent research will contribute to our understanding of Ranomafana National Park and the link between the Park and the people of the region. Approved for Biology.

Nepal

Geoscience in the Himalaya

In this program, students will engage in classic field geologic skill development and innovative inquiry of human-Earth systems. The program focuses on field geoscience, geohazards, and environmental science in the context of human interactions and sustainable development in Nepal.

  • Study how immense mountain ranges form and continually transform.
  • Investigate the hazards and benefits of living in a dynamic natural environment.
  • Conduct field research and acquire proficiency in geologic field techniques.
  • Analyze human interaction with Earth systems.
  • Examine how societal decisions affect the geohazard risks faced by human populations.

Analyze steps for risk reduction that align with sustainable development practices.  Approved for EAPS.

South Africa (Cape Town)

CIEE-Cape Town: Summer Global Internship

Imagine gaining work experience in one of the world's most beautiful yet economically and socially divided global cities. The proud, diverse, and major commercial center of South Africa, Cape Town, is an emerging global economy facing many challenges, including its power supply, labor force, and inequality. Despite its challenges, this incredible South African port city regularly ranks as one of the top tourist destinations in the world, with stunning beaches, majestic mountains, and fantastic wildlife within its city limits.

South Korea (Seoul)

Yonsei International Summer School

Students participating in the Yonsei University summer school are eligible to apply to the internship program. The Korea Summer Internship Program offers YISS students direct exposure to global corporate settings in the heart of Seoul, Korea. Taking advantage of Yonsei University’s vast alumni networks and strong ties with business and educational partners, the program provides students with the opportunity to gain professional work experience and to build social networks in some of the world’s leading companies and organizations.  Approved for CoS.

Sweden (Stockholm)

DIS-Stockholm: Health, Science and Engineering Programs

DIS-Stockholm's program is located in Stockholm's beautiful Östermalm neighborhood, steps from several Swedish universities, the national Olympic stadium, a metro (T-bana) station, and the Royal National City Park.

Stockholm is the hub for politics, industry, fashion, and research in Sweden. With 14 islands making up the city, each day brings a new adventure. Explore the bustling metropolis of central Stockholm. Meet friends for an afternoon fika at a quaint café in Gamla Stan. Pack a picnic, and join other locals basking in the sun at your favorite overlook on the water.

SEA Semester: Environmental Studies at Sea

Sea Education Association (SEA) is an internationally recognized leader in undergraduate ocean education. Since 1971, SEA has equipped students with the tools to become environmentally literate leaders prepared to address the defining issue of the twenty-first century: the human impact on the environment.

Purdue students may participate in any of SEA's voyages that includes at least one international port stop, such as non-U.S. territories in the Caribbean or Pacific or French Polynesia.
