Karen Plaut's Introduction to Dimensions of Discovery

April 2, 2025

Dear Colleagues,

At Purdue, we take great pride in the excellence of our research community. One of the highlights of my role is recognizing the passion, creative problem solving and intellectual curiosity of Purdue’s world class research faculty and their contributions.

This issue of Dimensions of Discovery includes stories of Purdue faculty being recognized by professional societies, funding agencies and others, for excellence in their careers. Boilermakers being named American Academy for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) fellows, National Academy of Engineering (NAE) members, winners of NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Awards and (PECASE) recipients, celebrates our faculty’s excellence in their fields and significant contributions to the world. The same is true for two faculty members recently honored with these prestigious awards: the Arthur C. Guyton Award for Excellence in Integrative Physiology and Medicine and the IEEE Technical Achievement Award.

These well-deserved accolades from prestigious organizations are personally rewarding for our faculty. They also serve to strengthen our ongoing drive to deliver on pressing societal needs and advance our fields of research.

In reading this issue’s stories about new breakthroughs in quantum science, dark ceramics for hypersonics, microscale manufacturing and other fields, I am inspired by the extraordinary and talented people behind each story.

Thanks,

Karen Plaut
Executive Vice President for Research
