Indianapolis Parking Permits

Indianapolis location parking operations are managed by Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services.

2023-2024 parking permits expire on June 30, 2024. Information about new parking permits for faculty, staff and students is outlined below.

Faculty/Staff

Parking permit sales for the 2024-2025 academic year opened on sale June 17, 2024. Payment in full or recurring monthly or bi-weekly payments is available. Payroll deduction is not offered. More information was sent through email in mid-June.

Parking permit reciprocity for individuals who are working at both locations is available in 2024-2025. Individuals should purchase a permit through the location assigned as their primary by Human Resources, and either parking office can confirm your classification if you need assistance. IU Indianapolis faculty and staff parking permits will be accepted in "A" surface lots and non-gated parking garages at the West Lafayette location. Refer to the downloadable parking map (PDF) for eligible spots. IU Indianapolis parking permits will not be accepted in the gated parking garages or other locations. Additional details are below under the Reciprocity headings. 

Students

Parking permits for the 2024-2025 academic year will go on sale Aug. 1, 2024. Payment in full or Bursar billing will be available. More information will be sent through email closer to the permit sale date.

Purdue students in Indianapolis have reciprocity with parking at the West Lafayette location with no additional action needed after purchasing an IU Indianapolis permit. Permits will be accepted in "C" permit parking lots, shown on the downloadable parking map (PDF). Please refer to the information in the next sections about Reciprocity for more information.

At this time, students in West Lafayette do not have parking reciprocity at the Indianapolis location. Free shuttles between West Lafayette and Indianapolis will be available beginning in the fall 2024 semester to assist with travel and parking needs between locations. Details will be available soon.

Reciprocity: Indianapolis as primary location

After purchasing an IU Indianapolis parking permit, faculty, staff and students who will also be working at or attending classes at the West Lafayette location do not need to take further steps to ensure West Lafayette parking eligibility. IU Indianapolis parking permits that are displayed correctly and in eligible locations will automatically be accepted by Purdue West Lafayette Parking enforcement staff.

Reciprocity: West Lafayette as primary location

West Lafayette faculty and staff who will also be working at the Indianapolis location should purchase a permit online through Purdue's parking portal, then contact Purdue Parking at 765-494-9497 or parking@purdue.edu to request an IU Indianapolis permit. The West Lafayette location uses virtual parking permits with license plate recognition, while the Indianapolis location uses physical parking permits for enforcement. Purdue Parking will coordinate all arrangements needed with IU Indianapolis Parking and Transportation Services after receiving a request, and the individual will be able to pick up a physical IU Indianapolis parking permit from that office at no additional charge within a couple business days of receiving the request.
