Spring Break 2026 Safety Recommendations

March 11, 2026

Dear Boilermaker,

Spring break is quickly approaching, and we know you’ve been working hard — balancing classes, midterms, research, writing and everything else that comes with being a Purdue student. This upcoming break is a well‑deserved opportunity to rest, recharge and take care of yourself.

Your health and safety remain a top priority, whether you are staying in West Lafayette or traveling elsewhere. As you prepare for the week ahead, please take a moment to think about your personal safety and how your choices may impact you, both legally and within the university community. No place, including here at Purdue, can fully eliminate the risk of crime or unexpected events, so staying aware and prepared is essential. A few reminders as you head into the break:

  • If traveling outside the United States, check first for any travel advisories and security alerts issued by the Department of State.
  • Share your travel plans with someone you trust before you leave.
  • If you choose to drink, do so responsibly. Know your limits, avoid accepting drinks from strangers and look out for your friends.
  • Stay hydrated, eat regularly and protect yourself from the sun.
  • Travel with others when possible. Trust your instincts and stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep your lodging secure. Do not share access codes, and lock doors and windows. Use a hotel safe for valuables when available.
  • Keep your phone charged, carry your ID and have emergency contacts saved.
  • Practice water safety — follow posted rules and never swim alone.
  • When using rideshare services, verify the vehicle and driver before getting in.
  • Speak up if something feels off. If you see something, say something.
  • In an emergency, call 9‑1‑1 for police, fire or medical assistance.

Your well‑being matters. Enjoy your break, make thoughtful choices and return to campus rested and ready to finish the semester strong.

Boiler Up! Hammer Down! Hail Purdue and each of you!
