The Borderlands: An Immersion Experience

AN IMMERSION EXPERIENCE THAT TAKES STUDENTS TO THE FRONTLINES OF HUMAN IMMIGRATION

  • Explore historical and current immigration policies and their impacts on communities across the borderlands and throughout the Americas
  • Speak with people directly affected by migration, including migrants and others who live in the borderlands, and with advocates for migrant justice
  • Build connections with people and organizations fighting for migrant justice on both sides of the border
  • Think critically and intersectionally about solutions to the root causes of migration
  • Develop tools to take action for positive social change in your home communities

Information Session: Tuesday, October 1st, 2019, 5:30PM, HCRN 1143

Seminar + Trip to U.S.-Mexico Border = 3 Credit Hours

  • Students must attend an 8-week seminar (3 credit hour) at the beginning of the spring semester focused on the history of the U.S.-Mexico border, current issues, and the humanitarian crisis at the borderlands.
  • All-inclusive trip takes place during spring break March 14th – March 21st, 2020
  • Post-trip mandatory meeting (1-2 hour meeting)

$1,000 Fee* covers:  

  • Meals
  • Activities
  • Round trip flight
  • Lodging
  • Ground transportation
  • *$500 deposit due November 1st
