Purdue Launches Competitive Bid Process for System-Wide Syllabus Management Tool
Purdue University is committed to providing faculty and students with best-in-class technology to support teaching and learning. As part of this commitment, the university has launched a competitive bid process to identify and implement a syllabus management tool across all Purdue campuses.
For instructors, the adoption of a syllabus management tool will streamline the creation, distribution, and updating of course syllabi within the Brightspace learning management system. It will provide 24/7 availability and cloud-based access with the flexibility to include student-facing content and ensure accessibility for all students and instructors. The selected tool will also assist in compliance with House Enrolled Act 1001-2025: “A faculty member shall prepare and post on the institution’s website a syllabus for each course the faculty member is teaching.” A key requirement identified by the selection project team is the ability for instructors to designate individual sections of a syllabus as public or private – while maintaining only one version of the document.
This initiative supports Purdue’s ongoing efforts to enhance academic quality, improve operational efficiency, and meet updated accreditation requirements.
The tool will be implemented system-wide, including Purdue’s locations in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, Purdue Fort Wayne, and Purdue Northwest. Along with the project group, all faculty and instructors will be invited to participate in the evaluation and feedback process via live stream. The bid solicitation is currently live and proposals from vendors will be submitted in October. Once demonstrations are scheduled, live stream links along with a feedback form will be provided.
During the tool selection and implementation phases, current syllabus processes will continue as normal. There will be no disruption to existing workflows. The project group anticipates selection and integration of a syllabus management tool into the Brightspace learning management system by Fall 2026.
