New TLCoP session Sept. 30 explores hyflex pedagogy

All Purdue West Lafayette instructors, teaching assistants, staff, and students are invited to join the Teaching and Learning Community of Practice (TLCoP) for an exploration of hyflex instruction on Thursday, Sept. 30, 10-11 a.m. in WALC 1121.

This fall, PWL instructors continue to experience legitimate times when not all learners can physically make it to in-person classes. We can look to hyflex instruction as one possible pedagogical approach to help us continue to protect and support all learners, and especially those who may miss class for quarantining, illness, or other medical or accessibility reasons.

This special session of TLCoP, entitled “Title: Making space for all learners: Exploring different approaches to hyflex instruction,” will explore the various reasons for and means of implementing hyflex instruction. This session will provide a space to brainstorm and exchange pedagogical ideas with others; it will not be a space where instructors are told what to do regarding hyflex instruction. In this exploratory session, instructors will have the opportunity to discuss affordances of hyflex pedagogy with other instructors from across campus, identify parameters for hyflex in the context of their own courses, and brainstorm various techniques for implementing hyflex pedagogy.

Registration is encouraged for this TLCoP session. Further details on other TLCoP sessions during fall 2021 and the community of practice are available on the TLCoP website.

TLCoP is part of the Innovative Learning hub approach to connect PWL instructors to the resources they need to engage students, develop courses in any instructional modality, and enhance learning across the University. Members include the Center for Instructional Excellence, Libraries and the School of Information Studies, Purdue Online and Teaching and Learning Technologies.
