Rx Savings Solutions is a prescription-drug game changer so far in 2020

Debuting on January 1, 2020, Rx Savings Solutions brings a new interactive, transparent, personalized approach to prescription drug costs. It’s free, confidential and works in conjunction with your Purdue prescription coverage. What’s even better is that every member on your health plan can utilize Rx Savings Solutions. Any minors’ prescriptions will appear on your portal; spouses and adult dependents will need to set up their own accounts. Spouses and adult dependents must have their Social Security Number (SSN) in the Benefitfocus system in order to activate their own Rx Savings Solutions’ accounts.

To add their SSNs, begin at one.purdue.edu, select the “Benefits Enrollment – Active Benefitfocus (Faculty/Staff)” tile. Log in to Benefitfocus with your Purdue Career Account and BoilerKey. Once logged into Benefitfocus, click the gold button “To Enroll, Make a Change, and View Your Benefits CLICK HERE” on the top right side. In the menu on the left, click “Dependents.” Under “Actions,” click “Edit” next to your dependent’s name. Add the dependent’s SSN, then click the black “Save” box at the bottom of the page. Once the SSN has been added, your spouse or adult dependent will be able to activate their accounts.

Activate your account

All benefits-eligible employees and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan are already Rx Savings Solutions’ members; all that employees need to do now is activate your accounts, if you have not already done so. Rx Savings Solutions does the rest of the work. At home or on the go, you have access to this comprehensive online tool that automatically alerts you if you’re paying too much for any prescription and finds other ways to get the same treatment for less money. It’s a convenient way for you to see all the ways you (and your family members if applicable) can save money on your prescriptions, based on your Purdue health plan.

“It’s been exciting to watch the Rx Savings Solutions’ numbers steadily increase since the first of the year,” said Candace Shaffer, senior director of benefits in Human Resources. “Prescription drugs from every angle – drug lists, pharmacy networks, price, categories, formularies, brand versus generic and so on – can be complicated and difficult to navigate on our own. We now have a partner in Rx Savings Solutions. Helping our Purdue family be and stay as healthy as possible is the foundation of our Healthy Boiler Program; being able to add this type of pharmacy support that speaks to the financial wellness pillar as well as the physical health and behavioral health pillars, positions us all to have more control and continue to be wise healthcare consumers.”

As of February 21, 1,815 (15.6 percent) primary members and 1,978 (10.87 percent) total members were utilizing savings via active accounts.
