Purdue Bands & Orchestras boasts one of the most extensive concert band programs in the country, offering up to seven different bands with membership based on musical ability and a varied approach to programming. The breadth of opportunities allows students to participate on a level that matches their ability and interest – from the serious musician to the dedicated hobbyist. Each concert band rehearses two to three days per week for two hours each day, and presents two concerts each semester.
The Purdue Wind Ensemble is made up of the finest instrumentalists on campus. Its membership is by invitation only following auditions and usually numbers 60 wind, brass, and percussion players. In 2006 it made its debut at New York City’s famed Carnegie Hall, and returned in March 2016.
Other concert band opportunities at Purdue include Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Collegiate Band, Campus Band, Varsity Band, and University Band. Each concert band rehearses two to three days per week for at least 2 hours each class period, and presents two concerts each semester.
