Concerto Competition Winners
On Saturday, January 27, ten Purdue Bands & Orchestras students participated in the live finals of the 2024 Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition for the opportunity to perform a movement from a concerto with our Philharmonic Orchestra in concert.
These ten students, who had been preparing for months and represented nearly all ensembles of PBO, including orchestra, concert band, jazz band, chamber music, and the All-American Marching Band, put on an amazing display of talent and artistry for an engaged live audience and adjudicators.
Winner – Angela Yan, piano (Philharmonic Orchestra, violin)
Angela will perform the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday, April 26, 7:30 pm at the Long Center.
Runner-up – Bryan Yoo, clarinet (Wind Ensemble)
Third Place (tie) – Geoffrey Ladue, piano (Wind Ensemble, trombone, and “All-American” Marching Band drum major) and Gabriel Boyd, French horn (Wind Ensemble)
Honorable Mention – Seth DeWhitt, alto saxophone (Purdue Jazz Band)

Kevin Lin, Concertmaster of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra
