Michael Heger
Class of 1999
Michael earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 1999. During his time at Purdue, he was actively involved in Purdue Bands & Orchestras, performing on trombone with the “All-American” Marching Band, Symphonic Band, jazz bands, and the Gold and Black Sound pep band. He also occasionally performed with Purdue orchestras and on euphonium in other ensembles. Beyond performing, Mike volunteered in the Clothing Office and was an active member of Tau Beta Sigma, serving as president of his Chapter in the spring of 1999.
Professionally, he spent his career with Exelon and Constellation Energy at the Clinton Nuclear Power Station, where he served as an engineer and later as a Senior Manager. Mike joined the Purdue Bands & Orchestras Advisory Board in 2018 and has remained committed to supporting the student experience and long-term success of the organization.
Since retirement, he has devoted significant time to volunteer service through Purdue Bands & Orchestras and a variety of community organizations. Music continues to play an important role in Mike’s life. He performed with the Decatur Municipal Band through 2006, supported his children’s music activities, led parent volunteers for the Normal Community High School Marching Band in Illinois, and volunteers with the Phantom Regiment Drum Corps food team. He is also deeply involved with Scouting America, serving in leadership roles at the troop, district, and council levels. In recognition of his service, he has received several scouting honors, including his council’s highest volunteer award.
