David Brown
Class of 1976 and 1978
David earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1976 and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1978. During his years at Purdue, he was deeply involved in Purdue Bands & Orchestras, performing with the “All-American” Marching Band, Symphony Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Regimental Band. A low brass musician, David played baritone, euphonium, and trombone in a variety of ensembles, served as a rank leader in the “All-American” Marching Band, and was recognized as Rank Leader of the Year in 1975. He was also an active member of Kappa Kappa Psi, joining in 1974 and serving as chapter president in 1976. In addition to performing, he volunteered extensively in instrument repair and participated in the Purdue Bands trip to Venezuela in 1976.
Since August 2021, David has served on the Purdue Bands & Orchestras Advisory Board. He is a co-advisor for Project Emrick, a co-founder of the Spots Emrick Volunteer Award.
Professionally, David spent nearly four decades at Intel Corporation, where he worked from 1978 until his retirement in 2016 as a Senior Principal Engineer, specializing in microprocessor reliability studies and counterfeit product mitigation.
David resides in San Jose, California, where he remains active as a musician, performing euphonium and trombone with the San Jose Metropolitan Band and frequently substituting with other bands and orchestras throughout Silicon Valley. Since 2012, he has also owned and operated Obi Studios, a rehearsal venue that supports amateur symphony bands and orchestras.
