Band camp: Fun and fear bundled into 7 intense days
In August the waves of sound rumbling through Purdue’s campus aren’t thunder but the sound of drums, tubas, horns and trumpets as marching band practice shatters summer’s calm.
More than 450 musicians, dancers and twirlers, pumped by expectations and nerves, descend on the Purdue “All-American” Marching Band’s annual seven-day camp on Sunday, Aug. 17, to create the thunder that officially ushers in fall on campus. more...
Drillfield construction finally underway
Mud-coated jeans and devastated tennis shoes will be a thing of the past when the “All-American” Band moves to its new “all-weather” practice field this fall. Work on the field is underway and the band is expected to be able to use it in September.
Completion of the entire project, which includes landscaping and a storage building, is expected in November 2008. more...
Ishbah Cox joins Purdue Band faculty
Ishbah Cox, former band director at Fountain Central High School and current recruiting coordinator for engineering at Purdue, joins the Band & Orchestra faculty this fall as an instructor.
Immediately, he will assist with marching band and provide leadership for the student offices. “This is a real positive. I can’t remember the last time we had a chance to hire a new faculty member,” says Dept. Head Jay Gephart. more...
Alumni Band is a ‘go’ for 90th Indy 500
The response was terrific and the verdict is an enthusiastic thumbs-up to the Alumni Band’s participation in the 2009 Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade and Race. We had over 200 “gung-ho” alumni express an interest in marching down the streets of Indy and strutting around the track “just one more time.”
The alumni band will march in both the parade on Saturday, May 23, and the race on Sunday, May 24. more...

Former AAMB Director Bill Moffit dies
Perhaps best remembered by his Purdue students and colleagues for his smile and his infectious enthusiasm, Bill Moffit always saw the best in people. “I never see mistakes,” he once said. “I only see better ways to do things.”
Purdue Bands is deeply saddened to report the death of Dr. William C. “Bill” Moffit at 3 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Jacksonville, FL, where he resided with his wife Jeannette. more...
