This summer, Orientation Programs welcomed almost 1,700 new students and their guests to West Lafayette during our June 13 and June 20 Summer Visit Days (SVD)! From warm welcomes at check-ins, to mingling with new students and families, to answering questions about their own Purdue experiences, our Summer Conductors ensured our guests felt welcomed to Purdue. Here are a few highlights:
- Our team of 42 Summer Conductors included 25 Team Leaders and 17 Team Supervisors which was our largest group of Conductors to date!
- Our afternoon sessions included 12 different offerings and included offerings framed around being successful in the college classroom, navigating housing and dining, preparing for college financially, getting involved on campus, and even understanding the history of Purdue!
- For the second year, Orientation Programs hosted their own session framed around Boiler Gold Rush. Between June 13 and June 20, 200 individuals attended the presentation to learn more about the program.
We want to give a huge shoutout to our Summer Conductors and our Student Orientation Committee members who assisted in the implementation of a very successful Summer Visit Day! Professional Staff and the Student Orientation Committee are hard at work preparing for August, but our new students have already begun their All Aboard Purdue experience. All Aboard Purdue or our 4-step welcome model includes Purdue 101, Purdue Advising, Purdue 102, and Purdue Welcome. For more information about the process and timeline, check out our website. Purdue 101, includes content to help new students prepare for Purdue Academics and their advising appointments. For every student that completed Purdue 101 by May 31st, a $1 donation was made to the ACE Food Pantry on campus. We had 6,024 students complete the course by that date resulting in $6,024 or 18,072 meals for the Boilermaker community! Purdue Advising is in full swing with about 9,000 students who’ve scheduled their appointments, and about 7,500 students who have completed them. Purdue 102 is our second self-guided course on Brightspace and covers campus resources and opportunities available to students outside of the classroom. This year for Purdue Welcome we are excited to announce that we are hosting our inaugural Boiler Gold Rush International in Indianapolis meaning that BGR and BGRi will be available to new beginners in both locations! We cannot wait to welcome our newest Boilermakers! Interested in Engaging more with Orientation Programs?
