Dear Boilermaker, We are excited to introduce you to Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) and Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi), our welcome week programs for all new incoming first-year and transfer students. BGR and BGRi are one of several Purdue Welcome programs that students will participate in as Step Four in their "All Aboard" Purdue orientation process. You can sign up for these programs from your New Student Task List in myPurdue.
IMPORTANT DATES AND DETAILS
- BGRi, which is a supplementary component for international students that precedes BGR, will take place Saturday, Aug. 10, through Monday, Aug. 12. Students who register for BGR can take part in BGRi for free.
- BGR will then take place from Tuesday, Aug. 13, through Saturday, Aug. 17.
- Please know that if you plan on participating in the Purdue "All-American" Marching Band, Purdue Musical Organizations, or Purdue Athletics, these other Purdue Welcome programs will conflict with the week of Boiler Gold Rush.
- To participate in BGR, there is a program fee of $375 that covers all meals and programming. There are no additional fees for students with a University Residences contract since BGR is considered an early arrival program. Our office offers full or partial fee waivers to students with financial need. Waiver decisions are made on a rolling basis all summer.
- July 31 is the deadline to register for BGR/BGRi, as well as the deadline to submit a request for a fee waiver or cancel your BGR registration for a full refund.
WHY SIGN UP?
By participating in BGR or BGRi, you will:
- Be placed into a small group with other new students. For example, transfer students will meet other new transfer students, while summer students will continue to connect with other summer students.
- Attend sessions specifically designed to help you transition to campus.
- Have ample opportunities to build connections with a community of Purdue University students, staff, and faculty.
- Be led by a current student Team Leader who has firsthand, on-campus experience.
- Move in early! Move-in for BGRi participants will take place Friday, Aug. 9. BGR participants will be able to move in on Sunday, Aug. 11 through Tuesday, Aug. 13 during their pre-assigned time. If you are living in University Residences and have questions about their move-in process, please visit the University Residences website. If you are living off-campus, please connect with your property manager so you can settle in time for BGR and/or BGRi.
Although neither program is required, more than 80% of incoming students take part in BGR each year (over 8,000 new students participated last year). Want to learn more about BGR or BGRi? Visit our website to get all the details! Purdue will send regular email updates in the coming months.
