FAQs About Disciplinary Records
Your disciplinary record is protected by the Family Education Rights and Protections Act. Our office cannot disclose information regarding your disciplinary record to those who do not have an educational need-to-know (university officials who have been deemed appropriate to share information with) without your permission. Permission for viewing your disciplinary record must be given to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities before disclosing information. Permission must be given through (1) of (2) ways:
- Obtaining and completing a FERPA Waiver from the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities
- Submitting a Dean Certification/Background Check form to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities with your signature indicating you give permission to the third-party to view your Disciplinary Record
Students, both current and former, are welcome to view their disciplinary record at any time in the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities during university business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students will be expected to present identification at the time of their request.
If a former student is unable to visit the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities in person, they can request to obtain documentation included in their case file via e-mail to osrr@purdue.edu preferably through their official Purdue e-mail account. The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities will request identifying information from the student if not sent from a Purdue e-mail account. The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities will be limited in what can be disclosed via e-mail, but can share any official university correspondence the student may have received regarding a case.
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities reserves the right to refer parties requesting student records to the Office of Legal Counsel to make a formal request for records which can be done so at:
