College of Liberal Arts to recognize five distinguished alumni at annual awards banquet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s College of Liberal Arts will recognize five distinguished alumni at its 2019 Alumni Awards Banquet on Friday (March 22).

Included among this year’s honorees are athletic footwear executives, a corporate consultant whose nonprofit honors his late daughter’s memory, a philosophy scholar, and a film archivist who is dedicated to preserving motion picture sound.

The five honorees are:

Robert J. Heiber: Throughout his career in film sound preservation, restoration and remastering, Heiber has worked to develop problem-solving technologies and educate the public about motion picture sound. Heiber was admitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1999.

Karen Korellis Reuther: As creative director at Reebok, Reuther is responsible for leadership and design implementation in areas such as brand identity, product and retail. The sought-after public speaker previously spent 12 years at Nike, where she served as global creative director.

Melvin C. Lenzy: A marketing veteran who has held leadership roles at multiple sports properties, Lenzy is currently a senior global brand director at Nike. In this position, he has helped design strategic marketing plans for celebrity athletes like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Paul George and Colin Kaepernick.

Carlos Paulet: Paulet is CEO of X-Factor Consulting Group and co-founder, along with his wife, Carolina, of the Catalina Art Foundation. Named in memory of their daughter Catalina, who died of brain cancer at age 6 in 2015, the nonprofit brings art and love to children with cancer. In 2017, the couple won the “Premio Grau,” the Peruvian equivalent of the U.S. Medal of Freedom.

Sally J. Scholz: Widely published on issues in social and political philosophy and feminist theory, Scholz is department chair and professor of philosophy at Villanova University. She is also president of the North American Society for Social Philosophy.

The College of Liberal Arts will also recognize 11 outstanding seniors at the awards banquet at Purdue Memorial Union’s South Ballroom.

The college is home to the departments of anthropology, English, history, philosophy, political science, and sociology; the Brian Lamb School of Communication; the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance; and the schools of interdisciplinary studies and languages and cultures.
