Appointments, honors and activities

  • Faculty and staff honors:

- Elisa Bertino, the Samuel Conte Professor of Computer Science, has been named the 2019-20 Athena Lecturer by the Association of Computing Machinery. The award recognizes women researchers who have made pioneering contributions to computer science. Bertino is being honored for her work in data management, security and privacy.  

- Todd Wetzel, assistant vice provost for student life and executive director of Purdue Convocations, recently received the 2018 North American Performing Arts Managers and Agents’ Award for Excellence in Presenting the Performing Arts. NAPAMA created the “Presenter of the Year” award to recognize inspiring individuals who have made innumerable contributions to the performing arts field by exemplifying excellence in mentorship, setting examples of best practices, achievement, and leadership, and cultivating and promoting diversity, practicing inclusion, and creating equity for underserved members of their community.   • Alumni honors:

- The Purdue University School of Aeronautics and Astronautics will honor eight distinguished alumni with Outstanding Aerospace Engineer Awards on April 2. The awards are presented to alumni who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating excellence in industry, academia, government service or other endeavors that reflect the value of a Purdue aerospace engineering degree. The 2019 honorees are Julie Arndt (BSAAE ’91), Christopher Azzano (BSAAE ’87), Doug Beal (BSAAE ’86), Mike Dreessen (BSAAE ’83), Tony Gingiss (BSAAE ’90), Scott Meyer (BSAAE ’90, MSAAE ’92), Lindsay Millard (Ph.D. AAE ’08), and David Thompson (MSAAE ’89).
