Purdue University Student Farm will host its first Small Farm Education Field Day this August
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Student Farm will offer a Small Farm Education Field Day on Aug. 30. The student farm grows vegetables, herbs and flowers on a small, ecological scale with an emphasis on diversity, healthy soil, healthy plants and, of course, healthy people. The farm’s educational programs emphasize responsible growing practices, how to market produce for profit and how to prepare vegetables to maximize nutrition and flavor.
The Small Farm Education Field Day will focus on these topics while furthering the farm’s overall mission to advance understanding of how food intersects with the environment, economy and community. The morning session will offer educational programs including small farm design, hoop house production, organic nutrient, pest management, food safety, social media, marketing, pollinators and small farm implements and run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the William H. Daniel Turfgrass and Research and Diagnostics Center, 1340 Cherry Lane, West Lafayette. The afternoon session will include an interactive tour of the farm and will run from 12:30-2 p.m. at the Purdue Student Farm, 1491 Cherry Lane, West Lafayette.
