Triplets of Belleville 'cine-concert' to be presented during Global Fest

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - "The Triplets of Belleville," a film adventure with music, will be presented live at 8 p.m. Sept. 17 at Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse. This film is rated PG-13 and is one of Purdue Convocations' contributions to the expanded 2016 Global Fest lineup.

The "Triplets of Belleville" was French illustrator Sylvain Chomet's 2003 feature film debut, and was an Oscar nominee for best animated feature film and best original song. Developed as a special presentation for the Montreal Jazz Festival, the film is accompanied by live music from the nine-piece Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville, under the direction of Oscar-nominated director Benoît Charest, as well as onstage singing, dancing and sound effects.

In this adventure, Madame Souza seeks her grandson, Champion - a Tour de France cyclist kidnapped by gangsters - in the metropolis of Belleville, a funhouse-mirror image of 1960s Manhattan. Virtually devoid of dialogue, and surreal characters, "The Triplets of Belleville" cuts against the grain of contemporary animated cinema.

Tickets are $28 for adults and $22 for children 18 years and younger, Purdue students and Ivy Tech Lafayette students. Tickets are available at the Stewart Center box office at 765-494-3933 or 800-914-SHOW. Group tickets are also available to groups of 10 more.
