There’s still time to earn Healthy Boiler incentive for 2021; deadline is Dec. 31

As a reminder, benefits-eligible employees and spouses covered on a Purdue health plan still have time to earn incentives for the 2021 Healthy Boiler Incentive Program. The deadline to have annual physicals (and biometrics if desired) completed and submitted via the Healthy Boiler Portal is Dec. 31.

In 2021, incentive funds are earned through one required step – having your annual physical completed ($200) – with the option of completing an additional step – having a biometrics screening ($125) – to earn a total of $325 per employee and/or spouse. Employee-only coverage can earn $325 and employee + spouse, employee + child and employee + family coverage can earn a total of $650 if both the employee and spouse complete both steps.

Both the physical and biometric screening are provided at no cost to employees on all Purdue medical plans as preventive benefits. Physicals can be performed at the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, the Campus Health Clinic on Purdue Fort Wayne’s campus or a community provider of choice. Purdue Northwest employees also have health care facility options on the Westville and Hammond campuses.

Physicals/biometrics screenings completed in 2021 count toward the 2021 Healthy Boiler Incentive Program and do not carry over for the 2022 program incentives.

Incentive payout

For those who complete the requirements in December, a payout will be made in January 2022.

For HSAs, contributions will apply to the same tax year in which they are paid, meaning the payout will apply to the new tax year's contribution limits set by the IRS. The exception to this is if an employee completes the program requirements in December but terminates before the new tax year – their contribution would post in January but would be applied to the previous tax year.

For HRAs, the account will open as of Jan. 1 of the new plan year. The exception to this is if an employee terminates before the new plan year – their HRA would open as of Jan. 1 (or their eligibility date) of the previous plan year, would close as of their date of termination, and they’d have 90 days from the closure to file claims for reimbursement.

A report in aggregate will be provided to Human Resources indicating how much each person should receive based on completed items. Human Resources does not receive any personal health information related to incentive completion.
