Department of Computer Science to host reception for educational exhibition, Intersection of Art and Science II
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue University Department of Computer Science will host a reception Thursday (Sept. 6) for its biennial educational exhibition “Intersection of Art and Science II: An Exhibition of Creative Processes in Science, Computing and Aesthetics.”
The reception will take place at 4:30-6 p.m. on the third floor of Lawson Computer Science Building outside Room 3102, with remarks from Petronio Bendito, associate professor of visual communications design, and Tim Korb, former assistant department head of computer science, at 5 p.m. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
The exhibition features international artists and was curated by Korb and Bendito and will run through Dec. 20, 2019, and features 15 artists and collaborators.
The exhibition examines a wide range of expressive approaches that emerge in the intersection of art, science and technology. Some of the works have a connection to computer science education and art history in the incorporation of binary concepts, fractals, 3D printing and quantum computing.
Korb and Bendito hope the exhibition promotes collaborations and interdisciplinary thinking, and educates students to engage with the increasingly growing role that computational and visual processes play into the creation of real and virtual experiences.
“Intersection of Art and Science II” is a joint collaboration between the Department of Computer Science and the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts.
