WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— Purdue University Global officially launched on Monday (April 2), unveiling a new website and logo and opening enrollment to Purdue employees, who can receive free tuition for most Purdue Global programs and degrees.

“This is an exciting day for students and all of us involved with Purdue Global as it really marks an important milestone in Purdue fulfilling its land-grant mission even more broadly,” said Betty Vandenbosch, Purdue Global chancellor. “We want Purdue Global to be the standard for how public education can be offered to those who want to improve their lives in the way that only education can help realize.”

As chancellor of Purdue’s newest institution, Vandenbosch reports to Purdue President Mitch Daniels and Purdue Global’s six-member board of trustees, composed of five Purdue University trustees and one external trustee. Purdue Global’s main campus is in Indianapolis.

Since Purdue announced its decision in April 2017 to acquire Kaplan University from Kaplan Inc., the new university’s trustees approved plans to offer a tuition discount of approximately 40 percent for Indiana resident students and free tuition for degree-seeking Purdue employees and a 50 percent discount for immediate family members. In December, the board approved a Statement of Ethical Principles and Pledge to Students, a code by which all Purdue Global faculty, administrators, staff and support team members, as well as service partners, vendors, collaborators and other associates will be required to conduct themselves.

Approximately 30,000 students enrolled at Kaplan University are now Purdue Global students. These students will complete their programs of study with their current instructors without interruption and will earn a degree bearing the new institution’s name. Over time, additional programs are expected to be added to the curriculum.

“More than 450 Purdue employees already have expressed interest in Purdue Global enrollment to take advantage of the career development pathway that additional education can open up for them,” said Frank Dooley, Purdue senior vice provost for teaching and learning. “At the same time, we also have faculty interested in working with the new institution and learning more about its online educational capabilities.”

Purdue Global offers more than 100 degree and non-degree programs, with rolling admission and new sessions beginning monthly.

Purdue Global was created to enhance Purdue’s land-grant mission by expanding access to higher education for the tens of millions of working adults who started and did not complete a college degree and for others unable to attend a traditional college campus. Purdue previously did not have significant online undergraduate degree offerings, and Purdue Global will put Purdue among the leaders of online degree-granting systems in higher education.
