AgrAbility to host national training workshop on disabilities in agriculture

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The 2017 AgrAbility National Training Workshop (NTW) will take place March 20-23 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“The AgrAbility NTW is the foremost educational event addressing issues related to disability in agriculture,” says Paul Jones, manager of the National AgrAbility Project based at Purdue University. “The conference provides professionals and consumers from across the country the opportunity to gain valuable technical knowledge, make important networking contacts and learn about new technologies from vendors.”

The four-day event will include workshops, tours, networking opportunities and special events.

Sessions include beginning farmer programs, agriculture as therapy, preventing secondary injuries, urban gardening, poultry farming, farming with a brain injury, universal design on the farm, assistive technology for agriculture, veterans in agriculture and caregiving.

On March 22, there will be a banquet and benefit auction featuring keynote speaker Ashlee Lundvall. After Lundvall was paralyzed in a ranching accident in 1999, she has become an ambassador for accessible recreation and has been named Ms. Wheelchair USA.

The auction raises funds for farmers and ranchers to attend the conference.

For more information, visit www.agrability.org/ntw and register online for the conference and banquet at www.Conf.purdue.edu/nta17. Registration closes on March 16 and there is no on-site registration available.

AgrAbility is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and provides assistance to farmers, ranchers, other agricultural workers and farm family members impacted by disability or chronic conditions. It consists of regional, state and national projects and involves partnerships between various land-grant universities and nonprofit disability service organizations. The National AgrAbility Project is led by Purdue University’s Breaking New Ground Resource Center in partnership with Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, Colorado State University and APRIL, the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living.

There are several opportunities still available for those interested in being sponsors and exhibitors. For more information, contact AgrAbility at 800-825-4264 or agrability@agrability.org
