Two Purdue professors awarded Sloan Research Fellowships
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Two Purdue University professors have been selected to receive Sloan Research Fellowships, which honor outstanding early career researchers.
David Gleich, assistant professor of computer science, and Christopher Uyeda, assistant professor of chemistry, are among the 126 U.S. and Canadian researchers selected for the 2016 Sloan Research Fellowships and will each receive $55,000 to further their research.
The fellowships honor "scholars whose achievements and potential identify them as rising stars, the next generation of scientific leaders," according to a statement issued by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Gleich studies high performance and large scale computations with a focus on enabling previously infeasible analysis of data from biology, social networks and scientific simulations.
Uyeda's research focuses on the development of new catalytic platforms that improve the efficiency and sustainability of synthetic routes to functional organic molecules.
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation was established in 1934 by Alfred Pritchard Sloan Jr. and makes grants in support of research and education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and economics. Sloan Research Fellowships have been awarded annually since 1955.
