Turnitin, Brightspace, tech tool sessions offered to instructors

Instructors on all Purdue campuses are invited to a system-wide Turnitin training, in addition to upcoming sessions on Brightspace and instructional technologies, offered by the Innovative Learning Team at West Lafayette, the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Office of Instructional Technology at Purdue Northwest, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT).

Systemwide Turnitin Training

Turnitin Feedback Studio, Purdue’s centrally supported originality checker and plagiarism detection tool for files submitted through Brightspace assignments, will host online training for PFW, PG, PNW, and PWL on Mon., Sept. 12, 1-2 p.m. ET/12 noon-1 p.m. CT. Registration for this event is required, and a Zoom joining link will be shared via email. Use this registration link to sign up.
The training will focus on:
-Creating a Turnitin assignment
-Exploring how a student submits and views the Similarity Report
-Discovering how instructors access the Similarity Report
-Analyzing how to use the Similarity Report effectively

Use Poll Everywhere to Engage Students in Mixed Teaching Modality
Wed., Aug. 31, 1- 2 p.m. ET
This workshop is designed for instructors who are new to Poll Everywhere. During this 75-minutes session, participants will learn the basics of Poll Everywhere. Before the workshop, participants are encouraged to check the Poll Everywhere resources on the CELT website to check how to login to Poll Everywhere with their PFW account.

In this workshop, we will explore your options for creating, delivering, collecting, and grading assignments in Brightspace. We will demonstrate how to use the demo student to see the students’ experience.

Using GoReact to Support Student Presentation and Learning

Do you want to provide time-stamped feedback to students’ videos (e.g, lab recording, presentation, language practice, musical performance)? Do you want to quickly analyze student videos by using digital markers? Join this session to learn the basics of GoReact.

Sending Automatic Customized Messages to your Students Using Intelligent Agents

This workshop features hands-on activities on how to create customizable email notifications to your students using the Intelligent Agents tool in Brightspace. Intelligent agents can send an automated email on your behalf based on your students’ behavior (course access, open a content page) and performance (particular grade). During this workshop, we will demonstrate how to create rubrics in Brightspace and discuss how the Rubrics tool can support student learning and success.

Using Kaltura Quiz to Engage Students through Videos

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to use Kaltura quiz to engage students and check their understanding. The different settings and the pedagogical considerations will be discussed. Participants will design their own Kaltura quiz and add it to a Brightspace shell.

Engage Students in PFW’s new Active Learning Classrooms

During this one-hour session, participants will learn the features of PFW’s five new active learning classrooms. Easy to implement active learning strategies will be discussed by referring to the rooms’ features.

These self-paced topics include: creating Brightspace content and communication, flexibility in modality, grading, and using activities. Earn a badge for each completed area. This module is part of a series of competencies created for you by the Office of Instructional Technology. Look for our upcoming functional faculty training module that takes a deeper dive into technology tools supported at PNW.
