Online Portfolio Management
Steps:
- Purdue Online makes recommendation to the Provost Committee based off pre-proposals, market research, and knowledge of the existing book of online business.
- Provost Committee will review the recommendation based on:
- Market research: enrollment projections, pricing, and market positioning
- Academic department: faculty initiated programs versus market driven
- Evaluation of online portfolio
- Provost Committee will resolve conflicts as they arise (market conflicts between campuses/programs, conflicts between offering departments).
- Provost Committee will make the final decision on how to proceed:
- Should we launch the proposed program?
- Who should launch the proposed program (campus/college/department)?
Questions to Consider:
Portfolio Management
- Assess the overall program portfolio through continuous market research to keep it responsive to market: redesign existing programs, teach-out undesirable programs, and introduce new programs.
- How does the program fit with the mission of the university?
- Does the university have a recognized competence in this area, or will new faculty capabilities need to be acquired?
- How does this program fit within our institution’s existing programs?
- What existing or planned programs stack with the proposed program?
- Are you moving a face-to-face program online or developing a new program?
