December workshops to highlight Brightspace, grading resources, and more

The Innovative Learning Team at West Lafayette, the Office of Instructional Technology at Purdue Northwest, and the Purdue Fort Wayne Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) offer several December workshops to help instructors prepare for the end of the Fall semester and the start of the Spring semester, highlighted by sessions on Brightspace, grading resources, and more.

Purdue West Lafayette

Finalizing your Brightspace Gradebook
December 3, 2020 12:30-1:30 p.m.
This workshop covers some of the most common questions received about grading and organizing the gradebook in Brightspace, as well as how to use the new upcoming grade push tool to send your grades back to Banner/MyPurdue.

Grading and Brightspace Drop-In Help Sessions
These drop-in sessions allow opportunities for instructors to bring questions and/or seek assistance in finalizing gradebooks.

Extended Support
Teaching and Learning extends instructor support with after-hour options and weekend times to provide final exam and/or grading help, email tlt@purdue.edu

Resilient Teaching Seminar
December 2, 2020, 10-1 p.m.
RTS will assist Purdue University Fort Wayne instructors in designing a learning experience with the flexibility and preparedness to adjust teaching approaches during unexpected crises. This seminar focuses on building a course roadmap with a mixed modality action plan. Activities include drafting a plan for one class session for resilient teaching for a future course.

Creating Instructional Videos with Camtasia
December 4, 2020, 12-1 p.m.
Learn to create effective instructional videos as simple as possible. Before the session, please install Camtasia on your computer. If using a university-owned computer, please use the Software center. If installing it on a personal computer, visit the Purdue University Community Hub. You will use your Purdue Career Account to login. If you have any trouble installing Camtasia, please contact the helpdesk.

Open Lab: Reorganize Courses Migrated From Blackboard
December 8, 2020, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Open Lab: Brightspace Gradebook
December 9, 2020, 11-12 p.m.
During this open lab, we will answer questions related to the Gradebook in Brightspace.

Creating and Grading GOReact Assignments
December 9, 2020, 1-2 p.m.
During this one-hour session, the facilitators will explain the different GoReact assignment types. Presenters will demonstrate how to create a standard private video assignment, close/open peer review assignment, and multiple camera (web conference) assignment within Brightspace. Practical considerations will also be shared for assignment design and management. Grade Center Office Hours
PNW faculty can sign up for a one hour time slot to receive personalized assistance with the course grade center organization and final grade columns. These sessions will run every Monday and Tuesday from 8-9 a.m., and Wednesday and Thursday from 1-2 p.m. CDT and take place in The OIT Virtual Help Desk Zoom. Grade Center Office Hours run until Thursday December 10th.

What’s Working in Large Enrollment Classes
December 8th, 2020 10-11 a.m.
If you are currently teaching or will be teaching a course with a large enrollment (however you define that), you are invited to join your colleagues to discuss strategies that are working (and not working) in large enrollment classes. Please register for this event.

Expert Is In: Getting Ready for Spring
December 17, 2020 12-1 p.m.
