Foundations in College Teaching runs Jan. 25-March 19

The eight-week spring 2021 online session of the Foundations in College Teaching begins Monday, Jan. 25, and is open to West Lafayette faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students. Register here by Jan. 22 for the spring session.

The Foundations certificate is part of the College Teaching Development Program offered by the Center for Instructional Excellence (CIE). It provides an overview of evidence-based teaching practices and strategies. For the spring 2021 semester’s online version there will be no synchronous meetings, but participants are expected to engage with and respond to others in the Foundations Brightspace, and to write reflections. Participants should plan to devote approximately two hours during each week of the program.

Foundations covers central topics in college teaching and asks participants to reflect on concepts, experiences, and applications at the end of each topic. Core topics include:

  1. Making Learning Accessible
  2. Assessing Student Learning
  3. Creating a Learner-Centered Environment
  4. Applying the Science of Teaching and Learning
