The facility in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture was opened to students this semester. It will be used by multiple courses in the department to provide hands-on production and research experience to students. Students in HORT 31900 (Controlled Environment Production of Horticultural Crops) are currently utilizing the facility to conduct research projects.


Ariana Torres and Ben Van Dyke are co-leading a Spring Break Study Abroad program to Southern Spain. They and 18 students will visit the largest greenhouse fruit and vegetable production (13,000 hectares) in El Ejido. Other production systems included in the program are: olive oil, manchego cheese, bullfighting breeding, horse breeding, citrus production.

The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture successfully presented the 2022 Indiana Horticulture Conference Webinar Series between Feb. 1 and March 1, 2022. We delivered 18 educational hours to 785 attendees from 19 States and Puerto Rico. We also had several international attendees. Southwest Indiana Melon and Vegetable Growers’ Annual Meeting will be held in French Lick Resort & Casino on March 11, 2022. This meeting is in conjunction with Illiana Watermelon Association Annual Convention. Wenjing Guan, Steve Meyers and Jeanine Arana Cordonero from HLA will give presentations at the meeting.
