Travel Responsibly This Summer

Students, faculty and the whole Purdue community are encouraged to “travel responsibly” this summer. In recognition of Earth Day, the students of HTM399: Introduction to Sustainability in Hospitality and Tourism are encouraging travelers to be thoughtful about travel and adopt the “Travel Care Code”

“Responsible travel is about being a good guest” said Dana Warnecke. ‘It means not trashing the destination and respecting its culture”. Suggestions from the class include buying locally sourced souvenirs and foods, learning about the local culture, even if it’s somewhere here in the US and making sure you don’t “leave your good habits at home”.

The class is working with the Purdue Tourism and Hospitality Research Center and Center for Sustainable Tourism to promote the US Travel Care Code. The code includes 10 suggestions for responsible travel this summer.
