The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) is a global leader in hospitality management education and is among the best hospitality programs in the country. We prepare managers and leaders for the challenges that lie ahead by identifying problems and using tools to make better decisions. Core components of the undergraduate program are experiential, theoretical, and analytical study. HTM combines sound research and real-world engagement, leading to highly sought after graduates throughout the industry, and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration.

The Division of Consumer Science is passionate about providing transformative scholarship, teaching and research to make a positive impact in people's lives, and the world. Outstanding Rankings

Purdue's Hospitality and Tourism Management Programs - Undergraduate, Master and Doctorate - have received #1 rankings. Two peer-reviewed studies have ranked the undergraduate program at the top (Journal of Hospitality & Tourism), and the M.S. and Ph.D. programs were ranked first in the nation in a longitudinal study of graduate hospitality education.

Research, Industry & Engaged Learning

The School houses 6 centers for research and engaged learning; 4 for hospitality majors and 2 for consumer sciences. In addition to providing research to corporations, communities and organizations, world-wide, HTM centers provide the link between academic excellence and practical application for industry professionals and students working to become industry professionals.

  • Avery Foodservice Research Laboratory is a leading proponent of research and technological advancement for the foodservice industry.
  • Center for the Study of Lodging Operations services the hotel industry and related organizations with timely information and quality research.
  • Purdue Tourism & Hospitality Research Center provides world-class tourism and hospitality research for destinations and communities.
  • Visitor Harassment Research Unit (VHRU) is a research cluster dedicated to understanding and finding effective solutions to the problem of tourist harassment, around the world.
  • Center for Professional Selling connects Purdue's leading students to sales organizations.
  • Center for Excellence in Consumer Leadership (EXCL) is an expert industry resource for professional development, excelling at bridging the gap between research-based methodologies and providing teaching and experiential learning that makes a difference to the growth of business.

Facilities

Marriott Hall

As a state-of-the-art facility for teaching, research and dining our facility features:

  • Demonstration Classroom & Premium Event Spaces for full-spectrum learning experiences.
  • Two foodservice labs with a full kitchen where students learn hospitality systems and processes.
  • Career Center for internships and permanent placement opportunities.

Matthews Hall

The Division of Consumer Science is housed in Matthews Hall, located at the corner of University and State Streets. Matthews Hall is one of the oldest standing buildings on campus still being utilized for classroom, laboratory, and administrative space:

  • Center for Professional Selling Lab is a state-of-the-art laboratory and outgoing call-center where students build skill sets in inside sales and relationship selling.
  • Apparel Design and CAD Labs offer state-of-the-art computer-based equipment and software used in the sewn products industry.
  • Textile Science Lab in which students pratice basic fiveer identification, chemical treatments of fiber, and dying and finish of fabrics.
