Tiago Sobreira started working with Bioinformatics in 2002 during his undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at the University of S?o Paulo. He worked at the Coccidia Molecular Biology Laboratory and developed several programs for genomic data analysis. Since then, he has continuously been working on collaborative projects and developing tools to analyze genomic and proteomic data. Later, he joined the interdisciplinary research group of Computational Biology and Molecular Genetics of Development at the Heart Institute at the University of S?o Paulo in 2004, for his Ph.D. studies in Bioinformatics. During this time, his work was focused on the evolution of ALDH enzymes and their functions, using the techniques of phylogeny, bioinformatics and computational structural biology in an attempt to understand how the ALDHs diverged and acquired different functions, such as detoxification and signaling, despite the fact that they have highly conserved amino acid sequences. Dr. Sobreira worked during his post-doc with protein/peptide interaction to create a new computational methodology for the rational design of specific protein kinase C inhibitor peptides. From 2011 to 2014, he worked as a senior scientist in the Laboratory of Bioinformatics at the Brazilian Biosciences National Laboratory (LNBio). The LNBio is a multi-disciplinary laboratory that focuses on discovering new drugs and identifying new molecular targets for cancer, neglected diseases, cardiovascular diseases and plant pathogenesis. He worked on several collaborative projects related to Rational Drug Design and Omics data analysis.Dr. Sobreira joined the staff of the Bindley Bioscience Center as an Informatics Research Scientist in 2014. He will coordinate the development of new tools for OMICs analysis and he will help in projects utilizing multifaceted techniques with data manipulation and data processing.
