Humza has held many roles in the Purdue Bands & Orchestras department, starting as a member of the “All-American” Marching Band trumpet section from 2016 to 2020. He was also a member of various concert bands, Gold and Black Sound, and Boiler Brass. He was a Gold level member of the Volunteer Management Team, particularly in the Operations Team and Technology Team, and served as the Technology Team Lead for the 2018 and 2019 school years. Humza continued to serve Purdue Bands and Orchestras as a volunteer until 2022 when he was hired in a part-time Student Clerical position. In 2023, he transitioned to his current full-time position. His major duties include updating and maintaining the Purdue Bands & Orchestras website, creating various printed media for the department (Fanfare, Boiler Music Maker, concert programs, concert posters, brochures, etc.), producing digital media (photo, video, audio), advising the Technology Team, and so much more.

When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all in-person operations at Purdue University in the Spring of 2020, it became a pivotal time in Humza’s career. The Purdue “All-American” Marching Band was committed to remaining operational in Fall 2020 and was divided into three platoons to abide by university and CDC guidelines. The goal was to keep rehearsing safely and present our Halftime and Pregame shows virtually over YouTube and social media. Humza, with the help of the Technology Team, stepped up to become producer, videographer, and editor for these full-show videos and single-song auxiliary features. Despite the restrictions placed on the band, Athletics played the videos at Ross-Ade Stadium and they were watched online by people worldwide. Humza also picked up the monumental task of carrying on the legacy of the late Jim Wallace by taking over the Purdue Band Fan Facebook page. Through capturing and sharing daily AAMB photos and videos to the world, from rehearsals to game days, the spirit of Purdue Band Fan lives on.

Humza also takes great interest in the science (and art) of classical music recording techniques in both live and studio situations. In 2021, Humza created the Purdue Bands & Orchestras Concert Archive YouTube Channel, which provided the service of recording and posting full concert videos from all of our Concert Bands, Orchestras, Jazz Bands, and all other indoor ensemble performances. Since its creation, the Concert Archive Channel has gained 1000 subscribers and grows every semester and helps to spotlight the department’s students who put in so much effort to perform these great concerts.
