Center for Healthy Living focusing on cholesterol management in workshop series

As part of the “Heart-to-Heart” series offered by the Center for Healthy Living, Tia Walker, registered nurse and health coach at the center, will lead a cholesterol management workshop series from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Tuesdays March 28 through April 18.

Hyperlipidemia -- which is the medical term for too many lipids (or fats) in the blood and translates to high cholesterol and/or high triglycerides in most people -- will be covered thoroughly during the four-week program.

The primary objective of the program is to educate participants in managing their condition to stay healthy and prevent complications. As part of the program, participants will also gain a better understanding of how nutrition, medications, physical activity, self-management and resiliency play roles in hyperlipidemia.

“Many people don’t realize that high cholesterol can put them at high risk for a heart attack or stroke,” Walker says. “This workshop will help attendees learn how they can make healthy lifestyle changes to reduce their risks and improve their health. I look forward to this series and helping employees create their own unique cholesterol action plan.”

Program participants must have a diagnosis of hyperlipidemia as identified by a Center for Healthy Living provider or through self-referral with approved documentation from a community provider.

Those interested need to register by March 27 via the patient portal by following these steps:
