Center for Healthy Living to offer weight management program

The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus will offer its last six-week weight management program beginning on Sept. 15. Individuals who are in the process of losing weight or who are seeking motivation, guidance and tools to begin their weight loss journey are encouraged to attend.

Cheryl Laszynski, a center certified health and wellness coach, will lead the program. Laszynski will help individuals identify issues that contribute to being overweight, assist in developing goals and strategies for successful weight loss and maintenance and provide support and guidance to each participant throughout the program. Presentations from special guests in the areas of nutritional counseling and physical activity as well as an offer for 10 free visits over a 30-day period at Purdue’s recreational sports center for those without a prior membership also are included.

“For many people, weight management and/or weight loss are goals for them,” Laszynski says. “Those goals also can be frustrating when someone doesn’t have a solid support system. That’s what we try and provide for our clients -- a solid, encouraging support system so they know they are not alone in their journey to a healthier way of life. As a nurse and wellness coach with experience in this area, I am in a position to help guide them and show them that reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is possible. All of the providers, health coaches, dietitian and pharmacist at the Center for Healthy Living are able to provide ongoing support once the program ends as well.”

The program will have its first session Sept. 15 and then meet weekly on Thursdays through Oct. 20.

Sessions will take place in University Hall, Room 003, in a classroom-like setting. Limited seats are available for this small group format to provide better interaction with the presenter.

Register by Sept. 12 by calling 49-45505. Benefits-eligible staff members at all regional campuses also are eligible to use the center’s health coaching options via telephonic and portal health coaching support.

Center for Healthy Living programs and workshops are free for benefits-eligible faculty and staff and for spouses/same-sex domestic partners covered on a Purdue medical plan. Adult dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan as well as benefits-eligible employees who have opted out of a Purdue medical plan also can attend free of charge.

Individual health coaching is available for weight management as well. For more information on all services offered, please visit the center online or call 49-40111.

The center is open 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Lab hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For medical consultation after hours or on weekends, contact the Anthem NurseLine at 888-279-5449 for assistance.
