The Teaching Academy at Purdue University
The Teaching Academy at Purdue strives to bring together the best teaching faculty across campus to create a collective voice for teaching and learning on campus. Faculty are nominated and selected by their peers to join this eclectic group of faculty. Faculty in the Teaching Academy contribute in a variety of ways, but even with the myriad activities their primary focus is to increase the effectiveness of all of the faculty at Purdue University.
The mission of the Teaching Academy is to provide leadership and serve as a catalyst to enhance and strengthen the quality of undergraduate, graduate, and outreach teaching and learning.
Bringing together outstanding scholar-teachers from across the curriculum, the Teaching Academy provides all interested faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to talk, learn, and work together on important and meaningful educational initiatives. The Teaching Academy sponsors programs and activities fostering educational creativity, innovation, and effectiveness both in and outside the classroom.
The Academy is comprised of a dedicated and dynamic network of scholar-teachers committed to the continual improvement of teaching and learning at Purdue University. Under the auspices of the Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Teaching Academy works with the academic schools, the Center for Instructional Excellence, and others to enrich the educational experiences of the entire Purdue University community.
Nominating Members to the Teaching Academy
Each year the Teaching Academy accepts nominations for individuals who should be considered for membership in the Academy. The Academy has well defined requirements and procedures. Upon receiving nominations, the Executive Council of the Teaching Academy reviews and accepts a limited number of new fellows and associate fellows.
Timeline for 2013-2014 Nominations:
- Nominations due to Shelly Dunk in the Provost's Office on Friday, March 30, 2013.
- Nominees notified prior to the end of the spring 2013 semester.
- Induction Ceremony will take place in the fall of 2013 (date to be determined).
