Jerica Drew, a senior in the School of Aviation Technology and Transportation at Purdue’s Polytechnic Institute, is no stranger when it comes to making an impact in her community. Prior to arriving at Purdue, Jerica actively served our country for five years in the United States Navy and completed three years of reserve service.

At Purdue, Jerica has served as a member of Cause for Paws, an organization that volunteers their time and organizes fundraising events at no-kill animal shelters. Jerica has also served as the treasurer for the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), helping them fund their various cooperative programming functions and initiatives. She was also involved as a parliamentarian and is the former president of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Today, she is active in serving as the vice president of the Purdue Student Veterans Organization, which provides support and camaraderie for military-connected students on campus. She also works with Purdue’s Span Plan Nontraditional Student Services by helping new students make the transition to academic life and achieve their educational goals. Span Plan helped Jerica transition from the military to Purdue, which inspired her to eventually become a coach herself.

Jerica tries to devote her time on campus by growing her community, building unity and helping others learn how to work as a team. The work that Jerica has done, along with her many accomplishments, can propel her forward beyond graduation. Speaking of accomplishments, Jerica has been given high recognition by many of the organizations that she is affiliated with. In 2021, she was presented with the Purdue Black Caucus of Faculty & Staff Outstanding Leadership and Academic Excellence Awards. In 2022, Jerica was honored a second time with the Purdue Black Caucus of Faculty & Staff Academic Excellence Award, along with being a recipient of the Purdue Motor Board Scholar Award. Amazing work, Jerica!
