Martia King

Martia Brawner King, Ph.D.

Director of Student Involvement
Student Activities and Organizations

Dr. Martia Brawner King is a senior Student Affairs Professional whose work focuses on student engagement and student development. She believes that learning takes place outside the classroom and compliments what is learned inside the classroom. Martia has strived to ensure that each student has the best college experience possible and that every organization is able to live their mission. She stands firmly on John Dewey’s philosophy of Education through experiences will lead to learning and growth.

Advising over 950 student organizations at Purdue is no small feat. Dr. King is often excited by the opportunities to think creatively, solve challenging requests, and provide risk analysis that will aid in student engagement. She primarily advisors the Purdue Student Government and the Student Fee Advisory Board.

Dr. King is a scholar, a student advocate, an educator, a wife, and a mom of three. She finds joy in connecting with family, friends, students, alumni, and the community.

Administrative Assistant 

Assists student organizations with registrations and general BoilerLink navigation. Provides customer service and supports departmental staff. 

Mckenna Hufford

Student Affairs Specialist-Programs and Engagement 

Oversees and provides support to the programs put on by the Purdue Student Union Board and Purdue Student Government. This includes safety and security, compliance with contractual obligations and university polices. Provides student volunteers with training in leadership development, programming, policy development, budget management and evaluation.

Advises three of our student organizations, the Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board, Old Masters and Rising Professionals.  Assists students through their leadership journey while helping them develop skills in leadership development, personal growth and budget management. Serves as a liaison to help our legacy student organizations.

Student Activities and Organizations 

Oversees the recognition process for new student organizations and the constitution review process for all student organizations. Organizes leadership and professional development workshops and officer trainings for all student organizations. Advises the SAO Ambassadors and coordinates outreach programming. Designs and publishes the SAO Bulletin, a bi-weekly newsletter sent to all presidents, treasurers, and advisors. Serves on the Campus Safety Committee to review medium to high risk student organization events and activities.

Juna Matsuda-Johnson

Advises Old Masters and assists in the implementation of the Old Masters programming. Oversees the leadership development of student leaders through personal development, event planning, and budget management. Works with student organizations across campus to connect with their alumni, manage endowments, and educate students on the importance of stewardship. 

Jessica Mellady

Office Manager

Oversees the daily operations of the office and provides support for the Student Activities Director. Coordinates support efforts for SAO and Leadership offices. Serves as the department tech coordinator. Assists student organizations with registrations, gift acknowledgments, constitution review, virtual event review, absence notifications and general BoilerLink navigation.

Mike Mifflin

Assistant Director, Student Organizations

Advises the Student Fee Advisory Board (SFAB) & Student Organization Grant Allocation Board (SOGA). Leads the Campus Safety Committee. Assists student organizations with general BoilerLink navigation and form submission.

Tyler Redding

Student Affairs Specialist 

Manages the Boilerlink system, including administrative configuration and updates to forms, processes, and navigation. Provides support to student organizations and campus partners to ensure high level of performance and understanding of the event approval process. Assists students in leadership and skills development. Assists with the advising of Purdue Student Government.

Oversees the leadership and shared management of the Purdue Student Union Board and Union Programs. Works with students, staff, and campus partners to foster transformative engagement opportunities through various programs across campus. Advises students on planning, organizing, implementation, and evaluation of programs while assisting with trainings, leadership development, and budget management.
