Research Area:
I am a cultural anthropologist who brings feminist theories and methods to bear on medicine, science, and technology. My scholarship showcases the relevance of feminist approaches in anthropology to political activities of global consequence, with particular contributions to understanding reproductive politics. My research focuses on the reproductive health spectrum, including assisted reproduction, infertility, abortion, menstruation, and pregnancy, as well as on mental health. Informed by feminist, antiracist, and disability justice theories and methods, I approach reproductive politics as dynamic sites for understanding social meaning through which relations of power are sustained and transformed. I actively collaborate across the social, life, and health sciences in the Midwest, United States, and globally on topics of increasing importance to broader publics on the dynamic landscapes for reproductive rights and justice, from the rising prominence of right-wing movements worldwide to the social justice implications of expert knowledge, especially as relates to medicine, technology, and society.
