2. Identify Interest, Track Record, and Institutional Context

Begin to develop a broader impacts identity by considering your preferences, Purdue institutional context, and previous experiences. For instance:

  • How comfortable and experienced are you in working with children? Older children or younger? Do you prefer structured classroom activities or informal afterschool programs?
  • What expertise do you have or training have you received that equips you to engage and support underrepresented minorities?
  • What types of partners have you already worked with successfully?
  • How well do you communicate with non-experts?
  • Do you have experience with technology-based solutions such as app development, virtual reality, or online learning?
  • Do you have outreach interests that align with Purdue's land grant mission or your college's strategic plan?

Your answers will help inform Steps 3, 4, and 5.
