Timeline and History

  • Foundations of Excellence Launched
FOE was a major initiative that brought people together from across campus to share their insights about the experiences of first-year students at Purdue. Nine committees (known as “Dimensions”) developed a series of recommendations that were compiled in a report shared with the campus in October 2012.

  • Purdue joins the University Innovation Alliance
The UIA is a consortium of eleven large public research universities dedicated to improving educational outcomes and degree attainment for all students, particularly those from first-generation, low-income, and other traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.

  • MAAPS Study Begins The UIA’s study, “Monitoring Advising Analytics to Promote Success” (MAAPS), seeks to validate the effectiveness of proactive advising in increasing retention, progression, and graduation rates for low-income and first-generation college students.

  • First Annual Retreat
Senior Vice Provost Frank Dooley convened a group of Associate Deans and Head Academic Advisors to identify and discuss potential barriers to timely undergraduate degree completion. One of the issues identified as a top priority was harmonizing the major change process, known as CODO, which had also been a long-term priority of Purdue Student Government.

  • BoilerConnect Launched
Powered by EAB’s Student Success Collaborative platform, BoilerConnect combines predictive analytics with communication and workflow tools to help support, retain, and graduate students.

  • Second Annual Retreat
Associate Deans and Head Advisors were joined by other leaders from within the Student Academic Affairs community for the second annual retreat and official kickoff of the Boiler Success Team. The group identified the transfer credit evaluation process as a top priority for discussion and review.

  • Boilermaker Xtra Special Completion Grants
Through the support of UIA funders, Purdue began offering Boilermaker Xtra Special micro-grants to provide assistance to students who are approaching graduation but face financial hurdles restricting their ability to enroll, persist, and subsequently complete their degrees.
