What We Do

The Boiler Success Team brings attention and action to issues that drive the academic and career success of all Purdue undergraduate students. We provide opportunities for collaborating across departmental lines on projects that contribute to student success.

Bringing Attention...

The BST has several ways to bring attention to issues related to undergraduate student success.

  • The BST Leadership team meets weekly to share information from our various departmental perspectives, monitor real-time student data when available, and propose projects to senior administrators on an as-needed basis.
  • When possible, the BST holds retreats and periodic campus conversations to bring the community together to learn from each other and establish networks that facilitate future collaborations.
  • We ask BST members to nominate students for the BST Student Advisory Board. These students provide input on a variety of topics and help to surface new issues for discussion.
  • We update BST members via a mailing list on an ad hoc basis. Sign up here if you want to receive future communications.

Additionally, the Boiler Success Team's student communication intern writes about campus initiatives to increase awareness and help make connections across BST members. See below for recent articles.

...and Action

Communication and relationship-building are important aspects of the Boiler Success Team, but we also actually do the work needed to advance projects and initiatives that have been identified as priorities for campus. Of course, many student success activities and initiatives happen at the departmental level, but the BST takes on projects that:

  • Are related to the success and well-being of undergraduate students, especially low-income, first-generation, and/or historically under-represented students.
  • Would benefit from the broader perspectives and insights provided through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Could use direct input from students, via the BST Student Advisory Board or other channels.
  • Would benefit from process mapping and/or design thinking approaches that are often used for UIA projects

See descriptions of current and past BST initiatives for more information.
