Tetsuya Sakurai
Professor, Department of Computer Science; Executive Research Director, Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (C-AIR); Co-Director, Cross-Pacific AI Initiative (X-PAI), University of Tsukuba
Tetsuya Sakurai is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Executive Research Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (C-AIR) at the University of Tsukuba. He also serves as Co-Director of the Cross-Pacific AI Initiative (X-PAI).
His research focuses on advanced AI and computational algorithms, with particular emphasis on latent-space knowledge discovery, privacy-preserving machine learning, and large-scale computational methods leveraging high-performance computing.
From 2018 to 2022, he led a NEDO research project on privacy-enhancing AI technologies for distributed data environments under the program “Realizing a Smart Society through the Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology.” From 2010 to 2017, he led a JST CREST project on parallel eigenvalue computation for next-generation supercomputers under the research area “Creation of System Software Technologies for Post-Petascale High Performance Computing.”
In 2018, he received the Commendation for Science and Technology from Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in recognition of his contributions to large-scale eigenvalue analysis algorithms.
